What is Hybrida?

Hybrida is a project to create new coffee varieties for a better coffee future. Farmers are in trouble: rising costs and climate change are making growing coffee much harder.

To keep growing coffee and get good prices, farmers need new coffee varieties that are not only disease resistant but also tasty to appeal to specialty coffee consumers.

What is Hybrida?

Hybrida is a long-term project creating new coffee varieties for the future of coffee.

Coffee farming is becoming increasingly difficult. Rising production costs, climate instability and plant disease are putting pressure on producers across the world.

To continue producing exceptional coffees, farmers need new varieties that combine cup quality, resilience and agricultural diversity.

At  Sapere.Coffee, we collaborate with  The Center for the Advancement of Coffee, an NGO running coffee breeding and variety selection programs in El Salvador.

Participating farms plant and evaluate new genetic material while continuing to produce coffee commercially. Sapere supports the project by sourcing coffees from these farms and contributing a portion of every Hybrida coffee sale back to the program.

Today, Hybrida coffees include:

  • SHG Hybrida — regional washed El Salvador

  • Esquipulas Hybrida — from Finca Esquipulas

  • Guanacaste Hybrida — from Finca Guanacaste

These coffees are available:

  • wholesale as green coffee through Sapere

  • in small-format green coffee and roasted coffee through  APT.CAFE

Every Hybrida coffee sold helps support the development of future coffee varieties.
